About IPRECON

The IEEE International Power and Renewable Energy Conference (IPRECON) is an internationally recognised, peer-reviewed technical conference focused on the advancement of research in power systems, renewable energy, power electronics, smart grids, energy storage systems, artificial intelligence in energy, and IoT-based energy solutions.

IPRECON is India's first and only IEEE Club of 6 Technical Paper Conference, proudly organised since its inception by the IEEE Student Branch of the College of Engineering Karunagappally (IEEE SB CEK). It is one of only six student-led conferences in the entire world to receive the prestigious designation of the IEEE IAS "Club of Six" — a select group of globally recognised conferences held annually under the backing of the IEEE Industry Applications Society. Notably, IPRECON is the only conference among these six that is organised entirely by undergraduate students.

The conference is technically co-sponsored by the IEEE Industry Applications Society (IAS) and the IEEE Power & Energy Society (PES) — two of the most prominent technical societies within the global IEEE ecosystem.

Research & Academic Significance

All papers submitted to IPRECON undergo a rigorous double-blind peer-review process. Accepted papers are published in the IEEE Xplore® Digital Library — one of the world's foremost repositories of scientific and engineering research, accessed by millions of researchers, academics, and professionals globally. The proceedings of all three previous editions of IPRECON are already indexed and accessible on IEEE Xplore.

The top 20% of presented papers are further recommended for review and possible publication in IEEE-IAS Transactions and Magazines — internationally indexed, high-impact periodicals representing a rare and prestigious publication pathway.

"IPRECON is the only conference among the globally recognised IEEE IAS Club of Six that is organised entirely by undergraduate students — a distinction that no other conference in this elite global group holds."

100+Active Members
100+Events Organised

The IEEE Student Branch, College of Engineering Karunagappally (IEEE SB CEK) — Branch Number STB03951 — is one of the most distinguished and internationally recognised IEEE Student Branches in India. The branch was officially established on 13 May 2009 and operates under the IEEE Kerala Section, affiliated with the IEEE Industry Applications Society (IAS) and the IEEE Power & Energy Society (PES).

IEEE SB CEK is the founding and permanent organising body of IPRECON. The branch has successfully conceptualised, organised, and delivered all three previous editions of IPRECON — in 2020, 2021, and 2022 — and continues to do so with the 4th edition in 2026. The branch won the right to conduct IPRECON through a highly competitive application process in which institutions across India — including IITs and other premier national technical institutions — applied. IPRECON was entrusted to IEEE SB CEK from its very first edition, a remarkable distinction for a student-led branch from a state government institution.

The branch is home to 10 active IEEE Technical Societies and 2 Affinity Groups, including the IEEE Women in Engineering (WIE) Affinity Group, which has been active since 2010. With over 100 active members and more than 100 events organised, the branch maintains a vibrant programme of technical workshops, seminars, and outreach activities throughout the year.

🏆 IEEE MGA Regional Exemplary Student Branch Award — Won for Five Consecutive Years.
IEEE SB CEK is the first and only student branch in the entire IEEE Asia-Pacific Region to achieve this distinction.

IEEE Industry Applications Society (IAS)
Technical Co-Sponsor

The IEEE Industry Applications Society (IAS) is one of the most active and globally prominent technical societies within IEEE. IAS focuses on the advancement of the theory and practice of electrical and electronic engineering in the development, design, manufacture, and application of electrical systems, apparatus, devices, and controls for industrial and commercial purposes. IAS sponsors numerous international conferences and publications, including the prestigious IEEE IAS Annual Meeting, and maintains a global network of professionals and researchers working at the intersection of engineering and industry.

IAS recognises a select group of internationally distinguished student-led conferences under the IEEE IAS "Club of Six" programme — and IPRECON is the sole representative of India in this elite global grouping. The current President of the IEEE Industry Applications Society, Dr. Avoki M. Omekanda, is expected to inaugurate IPRECON 2026.

IEEE Power & Energy Society (PES)
Technical Co-Sponsor

The IEEE Power & Energy Society (PES) is the world's largest forum for sharing the latest in technological developments in the electric power industry. With a membership of over 30,000 power engineering professionals worldwide, PES serves as the primary IEEE society for researchers and professionals engaged in the generation, transmission, distribution, and utilisation of electric power. PES sponsors major international conferences and publications that set the standard for power systems research globally.

IEEE conferences, including IPRECON, are formally recognised as international academic events. Papers presented at IEEE conferences are indexed in the IEEE Xplore® Digital Library, which is recognised by major global academic indexing services, and are accepted as valid international research contributions by universities, funding bodies, and research institutions worldwide.

IEEE IAS Club of Six — Global Standing
IPRECON's membership in the IEEE IAS "Club of Six" places it in a group of only six student-led conferences worldwide recognised and backed by the IEEE Industry Applications Society. The other five conferences in this group are hosted by internationally acclaimed institutions in the USA, Hungary, China, and South Korea — making IPRECON the sole representative of India and the only conference in this group organised entirely by undergraduate students.
